Our Mission

The UCP Seguin Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization based in Chicago that works to raise, grow, steward and distribute funds to programs and services – particularly those provided by UCP Seguin – that help children and adults with disabilities achieve their potential, advance their independence and act as full members of the community.

We strive to make this world a reality – in Illinois and beyond – for people at every stage of life – by leveraging technology to provide innovative training and education and life-skills training, and residential services.

Our vision is that all people, regardless of ability, will be valued, active members of their schools, the nation’s workforce and the communities where they live.

Who we serve

Kevin’s loss began with the untimely death of his parents. But it didn’t end there. Left in the hands of unskilled family members, Kevin lost the safety and security of his clean home, access to the social activities he enjoyed and the part-time job that made him feel like a valuable contributor to his community.

Drawing on the funds we’ve already generated, Kevin is getting a fresh start. Today, Kevin enjoys the independence of living in a UCP Seguin Community Integrated Living Arrangement and is participating in UCP Seguin’s Community Connections program so he can return to work and participate in the social activities that enriched his life before his parents died.

NOTHING SHOULD STOP KEVIN FROM LIVING A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS.

No one likes being told what to do. And that’s what kept happening to Rich while he was living in an Adult Foster Parent (AFP) arrangement with other men with disabilities more severe than his own. Rich knew when he needed help and when he needed some autonomy to make his own decisions.

Presented with an opportunity to move into shift-housing with a friend, Rich finally got the independence he craved. Now, with his friend Brian at his side, Rich enjoys making dinners, going to ball games or just hanging out to watch a movie. With the right housing and the right support system in place, Community Connections helped Rich secure volunteer work and he is next on the list for a job offer at a local bakery. Every day, Rich shows he’s ready for increased independence to be a productive member of his community.

NOTHING SHOULD STOP RICH FROM LIVING A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS.

With the loss of her social network when she aged out of educational services at 22, Stephanie was at risk of isolation and depression. And in a single-parent home, finances were limited.

Through UCP Seguin’s “Bridges” – a program that helps high school graduates transition to adult services – Stephanie was referred to Community Connections’ Recreation Club at a critical time in her life. Today, Stephanie attends sporting events, holiday parties and movie nights with her new friends. She’s becoming more independent and is on track to being an active member of her community.
